ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT MILLERSVILLE
Three-time PSAC Coach of the Year and two-time Division II Coach of the Year Shelly Behrens has built the Millersville field hockey program into a contender at both the PSAC and national level. The winningest coach in Millersville history, Behrens guided the team to the first NCAA Division II Championship in Millersville women's sports history in 2014. Her Marauders have appeared in six PSAC Championship games, winning the 2013 and 2016 titles, and have reached the NCAA Tournament five times.

The 2012, 2013 and 2014 PSAC Coach of the Year, 2012 Synapse Sports Division II Coach of the Year, and 2014 NFHCA Division II Coach of the Year, Behrens has developed 70 All-PSAC selections, including a Millersville record nine in 2015. She has also coached four PSAC Freshman of the Year winners. Her five first team selections in 2013 and 2021 were the most in the PSAC and the most in school history. Her 2013 and 2014 clubs set school records for wins in back-to-back seasons (19 and 20). The 2013 PSAC Championship was the first by the program since 1986 and the NCAA Division II Tournament appearance was the first ever. She owns half of Millersville's PSAC Championships, and the seven consecutive seasons with at least 13 wins from 2013-2021 is the best stretch in program history.

Player highlights include three consecutive Synapse Sports Defensive Players of the Year in Taylor Parker, Lauren Sotzin and Rachel Dickinson. Dickinson also became the first Marauder ever to be a three-time All-America First Team selection. Dickinson was the recipient of the NFHCA Division II Player of the Year Award and the field hockey nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. In 2019, Erica Tarsi joined Dickinson as the second three-time All-America First Team honoree. Aliza Mizak completed her career in 2018 as the only four-time All-American in program history. In 2021, Meredith Fagan joined Mizak and Dickinson as the only three four-time All-PSAC selections in Millersville history.

Before Behrens' arrival, the program had been without an All-American for 10 years. Behrens has developed 29 in the last eight years and has placed 12 freshmen on the Synapse Sports Division II All-Rookie Squad.

Known for her defensive coaching, Millersville led the nation in shutouts and goals against average in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The 2015 club set a program record for goals against average and put together a record run of nine consecutive shutouts. Under her direction, Samantha Rumler set a career record for goals against average.

Prior to arriving on the national stage, Behrens' 2012 team broke into the PSAC Tournament for the first time in 19 years. Behrens took the team to the PSAC Championship game for the first time in 23 years. Behrens became the first Millersville coach to win conference coach of the year honors.

Behrens' players also excel in the classroom. The 2014 club was awarded with the NCAA Team GPA Award at the NCAA Division II Festival, and Margaret Thorwart was Millersville's first winner of the Elite 89 Award. Behrens has seen more than 40 players named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, and Sarah Dickinson was named the Capital One Academic All-District twice. In 2012, Maria Thompson achieved the honor of PSAC Champion Scholar. Behrens’ Marauders posted a team GPA of 3.41 during the 2009 season for a first-place ranking among all NCAA Division II field hockey teams and the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA DII National Academic Team Award.The team has earned a national academic award each season since her arrival in 2008.

BEFORE MILLERSVILLE
The Elizabethtown native and Lower Dauphin graduate came to Millersville following a successful one-year stint at Oneonta State where she quickly transformed the program with a 10-9 overall record and a second-place finish in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). She established herself as a winning head coach at the game’s top level by building Virginia Commonwealth into a competitive program. She amassed 33 victories in five seasons and led the team to back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2003 and 2004. The 2003 season marked the first time the Rams reached double-digit wins in a season in over a decade. The squad also recorded six straight wins, which was the longest streak since the 1992 season. The following season, the Rams went 10-9, which was the first winning season for VCU since 1992. Behrens was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2003 and the program also produced the first of two-straight conference rookie of the year award-winners.

Prior to taking over at Virginia Commonwealth, Behrens spent four years (1997-2001) as the head coach at Richmond. Behrens led the Spiders to their first-ever victory in the CAA Tournament during her first season and twice led the team to the semifinals.

Behrens was also a Division I assistant for eight years, coaching in the NCAA Tournament three times. Her collegiate coaching career began at Penn State in 1989 as an assistant. She helped the Nittany Lions to an 18-3-1 record and an NCAA berth. The following year, Penn State compiled a 21-4 overall mark and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals.

Following her time at Penn State, Behrens moved to James Madison for a two-year stint before becoming an assistant at Northeastern where she was part of the 1994 Huskies’ squad that finished 16-5-1 and captured the America East Championship.

Behrens has also been heavily involved in USA Field Hockey at both the national and developmental levels. She served as the goalkeeping coach on the U.S. team that won a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games and the national squad that competed in the 2000 Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Milton Keynes, England. She has worked with the U-21, U-18 and U-16 teams as well.

Behrens received a bachelor’s of science degree in education from Old Dominion in 1988. She was a standout player, serving as the starting goalkeeper for the Monarchs for four-straight seasons and received first team All-South Region honors during her junior and senior seasons. She was a member of four teams that reached the NCAA Tournament. The 1984 team won the national championship and the 1985 team finished as the national runner-up. Behrens also competed on the United States’ U-21 Junior National Team.

Becky Elliott was named the head coach of the Lancaster Bible Field Hockey program in March of 2018. She will lead the program for the 2018 season and beyond, as the Chargers welcomed field hockey back into the mix of varsity sports after dropping it after the 1985 season.

Elliott, most recently an assistant coach at Lebanon Valley College from 2008 through the 2016 season, also coaches for the Alley Cats Club Field Hockey team in Palmyra, Pa. Elliott was a standout back for Lebanon Valley from 1994 to 1997, and helped the Dutchmen to three NCAA National Tournament berths, including back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1996 and 1997. For her efforts during the 1997 tournament, Elliott was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

As the leader of the LBC program, Elliott has a 4-17 record in conference play (NEAC + CSAC) and the Chargers have collected 10 All-Conference selections. Coach Elliott also has one conference award as she was named CSAC Coach of the Year in 2019.

Anna Rogers was officially named Lock Haven’s new head field hockey coach on August 9, 2023.

Prior to her appointment as head coach ahead of the 2023 season, Rogers served as the Division I program’s assistant coach since 2016 and has helped guide the Bald Eagles to a number of successes over the last seven seasons.

Rogers becomes just the fourth head coach since the founding of the Lock Haven field hockey program in 1945 and replaces Pat Rudy, who announced her retirement after 27 seasons as the head coach at The Haven.

As assistant coach, Rogers has helped lead the Bald Eagles to three Atlantic-10 Conference (A-10) tournament appearances in the last four seasons.

Over the last seven seasons, Lock Haven has recorded four 10-or-more win seasons.

Last fall, Lock Haven enjoyed a sensational 2022 season. The Bald Eagles went a perfect 9-0 at home, marking the program’s first undefeated run at home since 2003. The 12 (12-7) wins in 2022 were the most in a single season since 2015.

Following the 2022 season, Jazmin Palma was named an All-American and she was joined on the All-Region team by Martina Spangenberg. The Bald Eagles racked up five All-Conferences honors in 2022, which runs Lock Haven All-Conference award total to over 30 since 2016.

Rogers was officially hired at Lock Haven as the assistant coach in July 2016. At the time, the former Division I player brought with her nearly 15 years of playing and coaching experience.

Prior to her time at Lock Haven, Rogers spent five seasons coaching the University of California, Santa Barbara club team. Santa Barbara competed regionally in the Western Collegiate Field Hockey Conference. Prior to her time at UCSB, Rogers was the head coach at Division III Elmira for four seasons.

Rogers graduated from Old Dominion University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. She went on to earn a Master of Science in General Education in 2011 while at Elmira. She also holds a minor from ODU in sports management and certifications in driver’s education and coaching

While at Old Dominion, Rogers was a part of five NCAA Tournament appearances and played on two conference championship winning teams. In 2002 and 2005, Rogers helped lead ODU to the Final Four. She was also a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Academic Award winner.

As of August 2019, Rogers holds a number of professional certifications including USFHA (United States Field Hockey Association) Level I and Level II coaching certifications and a certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and a Fitness Nutrition Specialization (FNS).

Chris Comiskey joined the Millersville University field hockey program as an assistant coach prior to the 2019 season. Comiskey is co-owner and director or Electric Surge FHC. Electric Surge FHC has over 300 club members ranging from ages 5-19 years old. During the six years of his direction, Surge has had two U17 players named USA field hockey players, 49 Division I athletes, 35 Division II athletes, and 18 Division III athletes. In 2019, Maxfieldhockey.com ranked U19 Electric Surge FHC no. 17 in the nation and fifth in the state of Pennsylvania for top field hockey clubs. In 2019 Comiskey helped coach the USA National Men’s Indoor and Junior Men’s Indoor teams.

Comiskey started his coaching career in 2012, coaching Wyoming Area Junior High to an 18-2 record, and the WVC East Junior High title. He was then promoted to the varsity head coach of the Wyoming Area School District. He led the program to its best record in school history his second year at 13-2, one year after leading first winning season ever by the Warriors. During his two-year tenure with Wyoming Area, he coached six all-state performers including two first team selections and four Division I commits. In 2015, Comiskey was named District 2 Coach of the Year.

Comiskey was the U14 travel coach for Kapow Field Hockey Club, leading his Disney team to a second-place finish in the Mickey flight. Comiskey served as USA U16 futures coach for Region 5 from 2013-2017.

Grays is a 2017 graduate of Millersville University where she helped the Marauders to a NCAA Division II national championship and two PSAC titles. She was named PSAC and Synapse Sports Division II Rookie of the Year, a NFHCA Scholar Athlete and a PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

DeAngelis completed an undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University where he participated as a practice player for the field hockey team. U.S. national team player and currently holds 42 caps. Christian has been on the senior team since 2019 and named to the senior indoor team in 2021.
He has been competing with the Senior Men's National Team in many tournaments, winning gold in 2018 at the Hockey Series Open in Salamanca Mexico, Silver in 2021 at the Indoor Pan American Cup, and a bronze in 2019 at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Former Millersville standout Erica Metz begins her first season as an assistant coach for Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey program in 2024.

Most recently, Metz served as an assistant coach for multiple seasons at Manheim Central High School after a stint as a volunteer assistant at Millersville. She has also served as a youth coach at Viper Sports in Limerick, Pa.

One of the most decorated players in program history, Metz compiled an illustrious four-year career at Millersville and helped lead the Marauders to a pair of NCAA Division II Championship Tournament Semifinal appearances and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in 2016.

Individually, Metz was one of just two Millersville players in program history to earn three first-team all-America nods as she was named to the NFHCA/Longstreth All-America First Team three straight seasons from 2017 to 2019. She also collected a Synapse Sports All-America First-Team plaudit as a senior after being named to the organization’s all-America second team following her junior campaign. Metz completed her career ranked third in program history with 40 goals scored and 100 total points.

After starring as a two-sport athlete in field hockey and track & field at Easton Area High School, Metz graduated from Millersville as a Business Administration major with a concentration in Management in 2020.

Penn State Harrisburg’s 17th varsity intercollegiate athletic program, the field hockey team will begin NCAA Division III play in the fall of 2024. The program’s inaugural schedule will be released later this year.

Caroline Griffin is going to be a fifth-year senior on the Millersville Field Hockey Team this coming season. She started her college playing career at Belmont Abbey College. Caroline then transferred to Millersville University at the start of her sophomore year. She has been a starter for the past three years. During her junior year, she was named to the All-PSAC third team. Caroline Griffin is originally from Napanee, Ontario.

Emma Hoats is a fifth-year senior on the Millersville Field Hockey Team. She began her athletic career at Limestone University where she received All-SAC honorable mention. She transferred to Millersville in the middle of her junior year and is about to take on her second season with MUFH. Emma is from Dallas, PA.

A veteran of 80 international appearances, West has been a part of the U.S. National Team since 2016. She made her debut in 2017 and has competed with the Stars and Stripes in New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Japan, and Chile. West was part of the U.S. squad that finished fourth at the International Festival of Hockey in 2017 and participated in the Four Nations Ibaraki International Tournament a year later. She won a gold medal at the 2017 World League Semifinals in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as bronze at the 2017 Pan American Cup in Lancaster, Pa.

West was a standout at James Madison University, where she earned Second Team All-America honors and was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year as a senior in 2015. She earned a spot on the All-Region First Team as well that season after a previous pair of Second Team honors. West also earned three CAA All-Conference selections and was also tabbed for the CAA All-Championship Team on three occasions.

One of the most prolific scorers in the Dukes' program history, West's 130 career points rank her third all-time, while her 56 goals are the fourth-most all-time at JMU.
