Horse camp provides training for your child on horseback riding. This camp may be offered for a period of one day up to eight weeks, depending on the horse camping program. In general, horse day camps focus on teaching beginners the fundamentals of horseback riding. Horse camps that teach various techniques of horsemanship to different skill levels are often offered in longer sessions. Horse camps generally cater to female students, but there are some that accept both males and females. Students of horse camps are expected to enhance their riding skills and learn how to care for a horse. Campers will have the opportunity to learn various aspects of horseback riding like saddling, grooming, training, feeding a horse and more through various horse activities.
Regional Considerations: For parents who are looking for horseback riding camp that offers English riding, consider looking for one located in the eastern part of the United States. These camps also teach show jumping and dressage.
Supervision: A horse camp is usually run by college students or graduates that are members of their school's equestrian team or are interested in the field of equestrian. Counselors should hold a license from the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) or a similar body.
