Set yourself apart at this high-intensity basketball camp in Overland Park with former professional player Esian Henderson in summer 2024. Formerly held at Aspiria Fitness Center, this camp has moved to Blue Valley Northwest High School and is designed for the experienced player. You will learn how to train, think, and play the game like a professional athlete. Become a team leader, streamline your focus, build mental toughness, and reach your basketball goals.

The High Intensity Camp is for the serious athlete looking for personalized, advanced skills training. This camp is position specialty based with focus on forward, guard and center skill work and also includes live in-camp film breakdown using Playsight technology and classroom sessions focusing on mental toughness and how to overcome obstacles.

    Camp Director Esian Henderson

    Esian Henderson, born and raised in Kansas City, MO, recently retired from his professional basketball career after playing overseas for nearly a decade (BDA Europe, 2009-2018). Esian has always wanted to share his knowledge with youth athletes to help them achieve their dreams and created Inspire Basketball Camps in 2016 to provide kids the opportunity to work with an extensive network of talented players, trainers, and coaches, with an emphasis on education.

CAMP DESCRIPTION

Designed for the experienced player, you will learn how to train, think, and play the game like a pro. This five day intensive camp is instructed by coaches who have experience either playing or coaching at the NCAA level and offers a 5:1 camper to coach ratio to ensure the most individualized instruction. Camp will teach you how to become a leader and will help streamline your focus, highlighting your strengths and developing your weaknesses in your individual position. Topics include: live, in camp film study using Playsight video technology (digital recording of each court), work ethic and mental toughness and positional work: body positioning, shooting, changing speeds, finishing, pivots, shooting, dribble series, taking drills to live play, leading your team, moving without the ball, lock down defensive technique, reading pick & roll situations, and more.

BASKETBALLS

Nike Versa Tack Basketballs can be purchased during registration for $30. Players can choose between a size 6 (28.5", standard girls) or size 7 (29.5", standard boys) ball, which will be passed out on the last day of camp. Please note that it is not required to bring a basketball to camp as they are provided by the staff for camp instruction.

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment, and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

CAMPER EVALUATION

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. In addition, campers will be evaluated and then split up into smaller groups according to age and ability.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided by the camp to or from any airports. If you are flying to or from camp, we recommend using an airport shuttle service. Please schedule flights as close as you can to the check-in times on the first day and check-out times on the last day.

Sample Daily Schedule

  • 9:00am Camp Welcome/Daily Intentions
  • 9:15am Active Warm-up (Series of dribble moves to two feet and dunk finishes with focus on body positioning)
  • 9:30am Position Specific Individual Workout
  • Guards How to utilize changing speeds through hesitation dribble: Demonstrate, practice, counter
  • Forwards Post and mid post face up series; Perimeter transition attacks, catch and shoot/drives, and ball screen
  • Shooting Beat the Pro Challenge: 30 seconds of each - Shooting wing to wing, shooting elbow to elbow, shooting opposite wing
  • 10:30am Break
  • 10:45am 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 semi full court drills
  • 11:30am Film Session using Playsight technology (Tuesday-Thursday): breakdown, review, correct
  • 12:00pm Lunch
  • 1:15pm Warm up and team skill work (plays and offensive/defensive actions)
  • 1:45pm Break
  • 2:00pm Scrimmaging/Application of the daily lessons
  • 3:00pm Dismissal
