Head Coach MJ Knighten
A fast-rising coach with an All-American pedigree and program-building leadership abilities, MJ Knighten is entering her second season as the head coach of San Diego Softball. The sixth head coach in program history, Knighten is the first Black female head coach of any program at USD Athletics and the youngest active softball head coach in NCAA Division I. She was an assistant coach for the Toreros in 2019-20.During her first season at the helm, the Toreros generated one of their strongest seasons in the circle as the pitching staff recorded the lowest team ERA since 2014 (2.95). The pitchers garnered multiple conference honors with two earning All-WCC second team honors and two WCC Pitcher of the Week Awards.

Assistant Coach Shay Knighten
Shay Knighten joined San Diego softball as an assistant coach in October 2020 and is entering her second season with the Toreros.The two-time national champion and former All-American will work with San Diego's hitters and infielders, while being tasked with recruiting, scheduling and assisting with fundraising. Knighten adds to the wealth of elite softball experience on the San Diego staff after helping lead the Sooners to back-to-back national titles in 2016 and 2017 in her freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively. The Buena Park, Calif. native was known for her bat during her collegiate career after hitting .360 over four seasons and tallying 247 hits and 42 home runs. In the memorable 2017 postseason run for the Sooners, she had a career-best 12-game hitting streak that covered every game of the postseason and multiple game-defining moments at the plate during the Women’s College World Series.

Instruction will focus primarily on hitting, fielding, base-running, and game situations. You can expect high demand for these first come first serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early.

- Dates: June 12-13, 2024
- Age Group: 7-14
- Camp Type: Day Camp
- Schedule: Wednesday-Thursday | 9:00am-4:00pm
- Check-In: Begins 30 minutes prior to the camp start time.
- Meals: Lunch is not provided. Please bring a snack/lunch to camp each day.

- Meals: Day campers will receive Lunch Monday-Wednesday. Overnight campers will receive Lunch/Dinner on Monday, Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner on Tuesday, and Breakfast/Lunch on Wednesday.

Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
Linens: Not included. Bring linens or sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, and a towel.
Air Conditioning: A/C is not provided

INSTRUCTION & FACILITY
Ratio: 1:10 staff to camper ratio
Groupings: Campers are initially grouped by age and moved around accordingly based on skill level.
Facility: Outdoor Fields. Indoor facilities are available during inclement weather conditions.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL
Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.
TRAVEL
Nike Softball Camps does not provide transportation from airports, train stations or bus depots. If you have a child flying to camp, please arrange a shuttle or taxi service.
TEAM/GROUP DISCOUNT
If you have a group of campers registering for the same camp, each camper is eligible for a discount. Please have someone contact the US Sports Camps office at 1-800-645-3226 with the names of each camper in the group and we will create a unique discount code for your group. Campers may then register individually through the website at their convenience and apply the offer code during checkout. *Discount amount varies by program. Please call for details.

Camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender.

Softball Field
The playing surface is "Bullseye" Bermuda grass, with the facility also including two batting cages that allow players to work on their hitting skills. A lighted LED Daktronics scoreboard sits over the right field fence and allows fans to be kept updated on game stats. Dimensions are 210 feet down the left field line, 225 feet to straightaway center, and 210 feet to right field. The fence is 10 feet high. Stadium seating capacity is 325, and spectators are also comforted by a full-service concessions stand, and public facilities. The stadium is also lighted enabling night games.
In addition, a new public address system has been added, replacing the out-dated sound system that had been in place since its opening.
With 17 Division I teams, a wide variety of club sports and some of the best facilities in the nation, the University of San Diego provides the ideal environment for all types of athletes to take their game to the next level.
