Science camp promotes a healthy interest in the sciences by giving kids a chance to do fun, interactive experiments involving anything from rocks and minerals to chemicals to the stars. Activities can be held both day and night, depending on the camp. Science summer camps usually try to create an interesting mix of various types of science such as robotics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, geology and more. A final presentation or project, either in groups or individually, will often be completed and displayed for the parents at the end of science camps. This could be a model volcano, a robot or the results of an experiment.
Learning Skills: Most science camp activities are held in groups, so there is a lot of emphasis on good leadership, cooperation and teamwork skills. Creativity and curiosity are also important elements of science camps. They are integral parts of the formation of new experiments and new ideas.
Academic Benefits: Some camps offer academic credit, because many of the experiments and activities done are the same activities that kids do in school science classes. For this reason, science camp can be an excellent supplement to school science studies, especially if your child needs a boost of interest.
