Lacrosse camp is dedicated to teaching kids the sport of lacrosse. Participants are typically grouped into all boys and all girls, and according to age and ability (there are even camps available for those wishing to make it to the pros). Some camps offer even more specific programs for goalies only, defensemen and longsticks, and attackmen and midfielders. In summer lacrosse camps, kids will learn the basics of lacrosse, which includes stick work, transition and shooting, as well as face off and goalie mechanics, team concepts and positional and skill play. After lectures, kids will get the opportunity to play with and against each other, and this healthy competition teaches them discipline and teamwork, boosts their self esteem and helps them make friends. The last day of camp is usually reserved for tournaments where everybody gets to play, and the winners are awarded trophies and prizes.
Highlights: Some camps give away lacrosse sticks as souvenirs, while others offer autograph opportunities with professional staff.
Counselor Considerations: Lacrosse camps are usually organized by lacrosse head coaches and well-known professional players.
Equipment to Bring: It is standard procedure for campers to bring their own equipment to camp: sticks, gloves, chest protector, helmet, mouthpiece, jock and cup.
