Rafting camp is an exciting camp designed for all ages and abilities. Zoom down a raging river, or take your time and go lazily down a meandering one. Each camp program is tailored to different levels, so your child will be sure to get the individual attention he craves. Rafting camps don't just teach the mechanics of rafting; they also teach children and teens how to work as a team to achieve success, building lasting friendships along the way. Many rafting camps are day camps, offering activities like lessons, games and challenges, nature hikes and crafts for younger children. Older kids and teens can participate in overnight camping trips to learn whitewater rafting by doing.
Counselor Certifications: Counselors should be certified in all levels of rapids, with plenty of experience teaching others how to raft. They should also be background checked to ensure your child's safety.
What to Pack: Camps usually provide lunch, and other meals in the case of an overnight rafting program. Pack your child's sleeping bag and personal gear, and everything else will be provided, from boats to life jackets.
Weather Considerations: Be sure to check the weather before you bring your child to camp. Generally, rafting will take place in light rain, but in the event of lightning, all bets are off. Dress your child in layers, providing swimsuits, raincoats and other wet-weather gear.
