A Presbyterian camp is a Christian camp that aims to emphasize spirituality through prayers, scriptures and the teachings of Jesus Christ based on the writings of theologian John Calvin. In addition to the teaching of Presbyterian values, however, the camp's goals are geared towards training in church leadership, promoting teamwork and imparting a sense of community to the campers. Since bias and hatred go against the grain of Christian belief, any person, regardless of age, race, gender or religious denomination is welcome to join. This, in turn, promotes the acceptance of individual differences and the nurturing of bonds and friendships. Presbyterian camps, because they also often serve as a venue for retreats, are open all year round.
Special Counselor Considerations: Camp counselors and volunteers are committed Christians, many of whom are pursuing church vocations.
What to Ask the Camp Director: Is there financial help available? Some parents may wish to send their children or their whole families to Christian camps, but may be in need of financial assistance. It's a good idea to ask for any scholarships available. The camp director may also be able to direct them to local churches that provide financial help for those who wish to attend camp.
