About Florida Marine Science Camps and Programs
Budding marine biologists can benefit from attending marine science camp. These camps can be day camps or week-long camps, typically held in the summer due to their proximity to the seashore. If your child shows an aptitude and extreme interest in marine biology at an early age, marine biology camp can help foster that love of the sea and its many creatures. For older teens, it can help prepare them for a possible career in marine biology. Children will get hands-on learning through workshops, research and fun activities designed for each age group. Kids can explore the underwater world through interactive demonstrations and games that really bring marine science to life.
Highlights: Some marine biology camps incorporate sailing and scuba diving as part of their marine science adventure programs. Some focus on environmental studies, sea kayaking and even underwater photography.
What to Ask the Camp Director: Can my older teen earn certifications and are school credit options available? Many camps do offer this, in conjunction with local high school programs.
Counselor Certifications: Be sure to ask what each counselor's experience, training and certification is. They should all be background checked, plus boast appropriate degrees in areas like science, marine biology and environmental studies.
