About North Carolina Family Camps and Programs

Family camps are camps designed for family bonding and fun. These summer family camps provide lodging, meals and varied activities for interactive fun. Lodging can be either in tent cabins for a back-to-nature learning experience or inn-style accommodations. Some examples of activities include outdoor recreation like hiking, horseback riding and swimming, creative arts such as painting and sculpting, family bonding activities like storytelling and nighttime campfires, relaxation and fitness like yoga and spa trips, and environmental awareness activities such as wildlife observation and nature preserve visits.

Regional Considerations: Activities depend primarily on the location of the camp. If you're going to participate in camps located in winter states, activities would include snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling. If you're interested in activities on environmental awareness, look for camps held in national parks or near nature preserves.

What to Pack: Choose essential items to pack according to the type of camp your family is participating in. For an outdoor activity family camp, don't forget to bring sunscreen and insect repellent aside from the basic camping supplies.

Kids Camp Tips: Family camps are not just about bonding with your own family, but mingling with other families as well. Be prepared to meet different people during the camp. Be sure to extend courtesy to your fellow campers so you will have a worthwhile time during this experience.
