About Washington Cross Country Camps and Programs

Running can be a great release for younger and older kids, so attending cross country camp can be a fun opportunity for those who love to run long distances. Cross country camps help both boys and girls, usually ages 10 to 18, master the fundamentals of running, plus they strengthen race techniques and improve upon proper mechanics. Whether it's a day camp or week-long summer camp, kids gain valuable experience not only in cross country running but also in making and deepening friendships through fun activities and team building exercises. Nutritious meals are included, as is instruction on healthy eating habits coupled with physical fitness goals.

Highlights: Many cross country running camps give out complimentary T-shirts, plus offer guest speakers and training under college or pro level coaches.

What to Ask the Camp Director: What type of track do students train on? Look for camps that offer newer, more durable tracks, such as eight-lane single-pour surfaces or more forgiving wood chip trails which are perfect for nature runs.

What to Pack: Be sure to pack any comfortable clothing your child likes to run in, such as lightweight sweats, shorts, T-shirts and, of course, comfortable running sneakers with socks. Sweatshirts and warm-up suits are also good for chillier days.
