Those interested in pursuing a military career or service will benefit greatly from military camp. These camps are designed for older teens who are facing graduation from high school and want to get a taste of what being in the Marines, Army or other military branch will be like. Some camps are designed for younger boys and girls, too. Activities usually focus on team sports as part of the fun and learning concept provided at Navy boot camp. Team competitions include obstacle courses, paint ball competitions and mud courses, while individual activities may include rifle range practice.
Highlights: Kids can learn lifelong survival skills while making lasting friendships, through inter-unit athletic competitions such as dodge ball, swimming, soccer and flag football.
Counselor Certifications: Staff is comprised of reserve and retired Marines who have the necessary experience and qualifications to lead youngsters to a possible life of armed forces service. They may also comprise athletic coaches and other members of area school athletic departments who can assist with technical expertise if needed.
What to Ask the Camp Director: Which type of camp is best suited to my child? Marines camp focuses on the Marines, while Navy boot camp focuses on the Navy. Other branches of the military, such as the Army and Coast Guard, also have their own camps.
