About U.S.A. Wilderness Camps and Programs
A wilderness camp is one where the participants are afforded the adventure of exploring the great outdoors. The participants will not only enjoy but also develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the community they live in from such an exciting experience. These summer wilderness camps usually take place in well-known, splendid wilderness areas within a certain region, so expeditions are done in a controlled and supervised environment. Though controlled, it doesn't make the experience any less exciting for the first-time wilderness camper. Wilderness programs will also involve other activities designed to boost the camper's physical, emotional and social skills.
Safety: Camp organizers make it a point to have highly qualified, extensively trained camp leaders and staff overseeing the whole event. The camp leaders assigned will have a high degree of control over the expeditions they are leading, so you know you're not sending your child to some remote, unsafe and uncharted region.
Regional Considerations: Activities are different for camps depending on the location. Camp organizers make sure the participants can maximize their enjoyment of what the location offers. Fun activities like canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and snowboarding may be a feature in some camps.
