Kids suffering from Crohn's Disease can attend Crohn's camp to help deal with their situation and have fun in the process. These camps offer many recreational activities, from swimming to boating, plus plenty of fun games where campers get to know each other and work on making lifelong friends. Crohn's Disease, a form of inflammatory bowel disease, is also closely related to ulcerative colitis, which is why you may see either a colitis camp or Crohn's camp offered in your area.
Highlights: In addition to group sessions and helpful informative discussions regarding how to live with this disease on a daily basis, this type of special needs camp may also offer fun outings, dances, horseback riding and rock wall climbing.
Medical Considerations: Medical staff should be on hand to administer any medications a camper may need. Each camper should therefore bring his own medication, for administration by qualified nurses. Medical staff should be trained in irritable bowel disease (IBD), Crohn's and colitis.
Counselor Certifications: Counselors may have medical, clinical or counseling backgrounds. Some are background checked volunteers that help out with activities. Be sure to ask about your child's camp counselors specifically to learn about their training.
