Diving camp could be just what your child needs to perfect his or her skills in the water. Many of these are summer diving camps, where kids head off to camp for a week or so to learn the basics of scuba diving, providing not only a learning environment but also a necessary social outlet for kids who love to explore the ocean with diving. Some are strictly scuba diving camps, while others incorporate sailing, marine biology exploration and kayaking as well. Because these camps require access to water, many are located on the coast. Focus includes basic and advanced courses depending on skill level, with many diving camps culminating in dive certification. 

Counselor Certifications: Counselors should be PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified, so be sure to inquire about this when booking.

What to Pack: Since kids will be in the water a lot, they will need any gear they own, such as wet suits and flippers. Many camps do provide basic equipment for those just starting out.

What to Ask the Camp Director: Ask what the student-to-teacher ratio is. You want as few students as possible per instructor to ensure the most hands-on, personalized training.
