For kids who are interested in flight, aviation camp may be just the thing they need. They can learn not only the mechanics of flight and aviation, but they can also participate in group activities and make new friends. Whether you choose a weekend camp or a week-long summer camp, your child will experience a set amount of hours of flight time, along with aviation ground schooling geared toward particular aircraft, such as Cessnas. Some camps are for middle schoolers, showing them the basics of aviation and offering fun activities like hands-on science experiments. Others are meant for high school and college age kids looking to prepare for a career in aviation, with activities ranging from astronaut training simulators to robotics.

Highlight: Flying camps offer some fun and exciting activities for campers, such as building and launching custom rockets, ropes adventure courses and water survival activities.

Counselor Certifications: Parents should ask what specific certifications, licensing and experience each instructor possess. They should be fully background checked as well, boasting many years experience. Many are former astronauts and pilots.

Learning Skills: Flight camps are very specific in the skill sets they teach. Students will come away with an intense experience in the mechanics behind flight and how to apply it in the real world.
