Your child may be an excellent candidate for autism camp, which can help him or her with crucial developmental and social skills. No matter what end of the spectrum your child places, there is an autism summer camp or traditional day camp designed just for him or her. Children are integrated with others in the same situation, whether they have learning disabilities or Asperger's. Trained staff utilize fun programs and outdoor adventures to help build kids' self- and social confidence. There may be a backpacking trip or hike each day to give kids the physical activity they require. Campers may also take part in daily focus groups that may concentrate on different areas of development. Some camps last just one week, while others last more. No matter the duration, autism summer camp may offer anything from socialization programming and basic arts to outdoor recreational activities.

Medical Considerations: Since many children with autism are on some type of medication or even a special diet, qualified nurses should be on staff to administer medication or assist in an emergency situation.

Supervision: Qualified medical staff, along with licensed counselors and team leaders, are on hand to supervise campers.

Learning Skills: Teachable moments occur throughout the day at autism camp, with real-life learning opportunities focusing on communication skills, peer relations and problem solving.
