The day may start off with a lecture or brief classroom instruction, followed by on-land simulator work or water demonstrations. Kids can then take part in on-water windsurfing drills, with video analysis of their progress at the end of the day.
Counselor Certifications: Counselors at windsurfing summer camps are often professionals in this sport or top-notch coaches. These world-class windsurfers should be certified and boast many years of experience teaching sail trimming, jibing, tacking, racing and freestyle.
What to Ask the Camp Director: What is the camper to instructor ratio? The smaller the number, the better, as you want your child to have the most personalized attention possible. You want to see about a 5:1 or less ratio for a windsurfing camp.
What to Pack: Bring a wetsuit or swim suit, plus plenty of sun block and towels. Many day camps do offer lunch, but if not, be sure to pack enough food for the day.
