If your child has difficulty paying attention and focusing and has been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD or dyslexia, she may enjoy attending ADD camp. Here, she can become immersed in fun activities and leadership programs designed especially for kids just like her. Those suffering from ADHD and other learning disabilities can feel at home in these atmospheres, which usually boast typical summer camp recreational options, such as swimming, hiking and obstacle courses.

Highlights: Activities foster self esteem, along with independence and academic success for kids of all ages. Your child can enjoy anything from whitewater rafting to horseback riding, depending on the ADHD camps you choose.

Counselor Certifications: Skilled counselors should have plenty of experience working with kids that have a range of learning differences. They should be CPR and First Aid trained. Many ADD camps have on-call nurses and doctors as well. Ask about instructor to camper ratios, as many camps boast ratios as low as three to one.

Academic Benefits: Many ADHD camps offer instruction in reading, writing and arithmetic, in addition to the fun stuff. Instructors carefully monitor students' progress and help them learn in a relaxed atmosphere. Academic programs are tailored to campers' specific needs.
