A riflery camp teaches kids calm deliberation and concentration. Because of the nature of riflery, attention to detail is also cultivated in each camper. Most camps have devised ways to make the activity more enjoyable through end-of camp competitions or getting to take home their first bulls-eye. Before shooting, however, campers are given courses on firearm safety, how not to handle a gun and the basics of marksmanship, comprising of correct breathing, trigger pull, sighting and positions. Certified instructors train shooters in accordance with the guidelines set by the National Rifle Association (NRA). Because safety is the primary concern, riflery camps are often offered to older campers, ages 12 to 17, though there are those that accept kids as young as seven years old.
Safety: Shooting camps are designed to ensure safety, with some being closed off to prevent mishaps, and strict rules are enforced.
Levels of Expertise: Most camps accept all levels starting from beginner. However, some camps are designed exclusively for people with higher-level rifle experience who have previously competed in rifle competitions.
Equipment to Bring: Camps designed for higher-level shooters require participants to bring their own equipment such as rifles, slings, spotting scopes, pellets and more.
