A physical disability camp provides fun-filled activities and great learning experiences to children who are physically disabled. It also seeks to provide positive support and encouragement to their parents and families. While children enjoy traditional camping activities, parents can interact with other parents to share emotional concerns with each other. These camps, which take place for several days typically during summer and are supervised by physical and occupational therapists and prosthetists, cater to children with special needs who are not eligible to participate in general summer camps because of their condition.
Highlights: The highlights of physical disability camps include educational outings, team building exercises, sports and outdoor activities. Another important aspect of this camp is interaction between the children and parents, since these physical disability camps nurture and promote a socially stimulating environment.
Safety: Since outdoor activities are a part of this camp, it is important that the camp director and staff oversee safety precautions. For example, lifeguards should be present during any activity that involves water like canoeing, swimming and so on.
Medical Considerations: Due to the nature of special needs camps, it is a must to have medical personnel present at all times to attend to any medical need or concern of the children.
