Randolph-Macon Academy Summer Programs

Randolph-Macon Academy offers residential and day camps for students in grades six through twelve. The Academy is located on 135 acres with mountain views to the east and west. The Shenandoah River and the famous Skyline Drive are nearby. The overnight facilities include air- conditioned dorm rooms, with two campers sharing a room.

Middle School Academic Camp

This camp is for rising sixth through eighth grade students for overnight campers, and rising fifth through eighth graders for day campers. Students take up to three classes in the morning, choosing from Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Study Skills, Digital Media, Music Technology, Science Explorer, Reading and Writing, and History in Action. The theme of Nature and the Environment will be woven into the curriculum of the latter three classes. During the afternoons, evenings and weekends, students may participate in on-campus activities such as arts and crafts, dodge ball, basketball, soccer, or swimming, or go off-campus for laser tag, rafting, bowling, movies, or amusement park trips. This camp is offered as a two week session July 5-17 and July 19-31, and as a four-week session July 5-31. Staying on campus during the weekends is optional.

Upper School Summer School

The summer school program, for students in grades 9-12, lasts four weeks (July 5-31) and provides students with one full high school credit in either a core course or two electives (each elective is one-half credit). Students may earn one full credit by taking one of the following full-day: English 10, English 11, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish I, Spanish II, French I, French II, World History II, U.S. History, and Comparative Religions. Students who would like to take elective courses may enjoy taking two of the following courses, which are worth a half-credit each: Filmmaking, Creative Writing Workshop, Personal Finance, Public Speaking, Design Concepts for Engineering, Computer Literacy, SAT Prep, and Study Skills. Students who need to improve a grade or strengthen their skills may take two of the following half-day courses as repeat classes: English 9, English 10, English 11, Spanish I, Spanish II, World History I, U.S. History, World History II, U.S. Government, Biology, Chemistry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. English 8 and Pre- Algebra are also available, but do not provide high school credit. Classes are held from 8:00 am to approximately 3:45 p.m. After a study hall time and dinner, students enjoy various evening activities, such as bowling, movies, swimming, and on- campus sports.

English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language is available to residential students entering grades six through twelve in the fall. After an intense day of studying and classwork, students have time to interact with English-speaking students during meals and activities. They also go on local field trips and learn about American culture. Students stay in age-appropriate dorms and attend the weekend trips. This full immersion course runs July 5-31. Flight Camp The Flight Camp is a four-week program that includes dual-flight time in a Cessna 172 with an on-staff flight instructor and a ground school that is intended for students who have not yet flown their first solo. This camp runs July 5-31.

SuperCamp is a highly engaging experience where your child acquires strategies for effective learning in all subjects, develops critical new skills in reading, writing, thinking, speaking, memory and note-taking, and builds communication, leadership, relationship and career capabilities.

Held at a variety of prestigious college campuses nationwide and select global locations, SuperCamp empowers teens and prepares them for a life of excellence--personally, academically, and in their chosen path in life. Students experience a shift in learning through academic enrichment classes, exciting outdoor challenges, personal growth and character building exercises.

It's renewed confidence emerging from a sense of team. It's intense days of discovery and motivation from wake-up to lights-out. It's a program taught by experts, offering skills that last a lifetime. Imagine the experience of success and growing confidence every step of the way. That's SuperCamp!

In addition to academics, students build their confidence and motivation by learning to value themselves and realizing they can achieve anything they set their mind to. They also learn about effective communication and positive relationships with techniques to address conflict, apologize effectively, and take ownership for their actions.

Even with all this learning going on, SuperCamp is fun. At the beginning of each session, students come into the main room dancing to a live DJ. The course work is interactive, not just lecture style. We make sure all learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) are engaged.

We encourage students to take responsibility for their education and give them strategies to make learning more meaningful--and easier. Students learn about the benefits of teamwork and bond over team-building activities.

Independent studies have found that a full 98% of our graduates continue to use the SuperCamp academic and personal growth skills to achieve success in their lives years after graduating.
